I am from Kilmacolm, a small village just outside of Glasgow, and I now live here again with my husband, our six-year-old son and our one-year-old daughter. I come from a long line of primary teachers and decided to follow in my parents’ footsteps, attending the University of Strathclyde in 2008, where I graduated with a first class honours degree in Primary Education.

I lived and worked in Glasgow as a primary teacher with children aged 4 to 12 before moving to London. During my time in London I worked as a class teacher in both the state and private sectors, and in 2015 I began tutoring children for the 7+, 8+ and 11+ entrance exams. Since then I have built a strong track record of success, consistently helping children gain places at the most competitive prep schools in London. This led me to leave the classroom and dedicate myself fully to tutoring.

In 2017 my husband and I relocated to Tokyo where I taught in Reception to Year 3 classes at the British School. At the end of 2019, after our son was born, we moved back to Scotland. Since then I have been working exclusively as an online tutor, supporting students in London and internationally. I work with many families across Asia whose children are preparing for entrance exams, and I am proud to have guided students from around the world into leading schools in the UK.

I am truly passionate about tuition and see it as my vocation. Online learning does not compromise quality — I design dynamic, interactive lessons using Zoom and Google Slides that replicate and often enhance the conditions of the classroom. I aim to make every session lively, engaging and purposeful, encouraging deep understanding while ensuring that learning is never dry or repetitive. My goal is to provide children with a solid foundation in core skills such as literacy, numeracy and reasoning, while also fostering creativity and curiosity. My teaching draws on a range of proven pedagogical approaches: I use Pie Corbett’s Talk for Writing to build confidence and flair in writing, White Rose Maths to strengthen conceptual understanding, and I am familiar with a variety of phonics schemes and the Singapore Maths method. For 11+ preparation, I often integrate Atom Learning to provide targeted practice and stretch.

My main priority is to nurture a genuine enjoyment of learning, as I believe this is the key to developing a positive attitude towards lifelong learning. Just as importantly, I focus on building confidence, resilience and self-esteem so that children feel ready to tackle challenges independently. I place great value on the relationships I build, not only with my students but with their families. I get to know each child as an individual and maintain an open and honest dialogue with parents, ensuring that we work in partnership to support both academic progress and personal growth.

When I am not working, I like to spend as much quality time as possible with my family. My husband and I often take our son and daughter on holiday to St Andrews, where we enjoy spending time on the beach and watching the golfers on the famous Old Course. Friends are also very important to me and I enjoy meeting up for coffees, although with young children finishing a full, hot drink is often quite ambitious!

I like to exercise when I can, and I regularly swim and attend yoga classes. I am also an avid reader and I enjoy writing in my spare time. I am hoping to embark on a creative writing course soon, with the view to writing my own short stories.

As my husband is often in France for work, I am currently learning French in my spare time with the view of impressing local Parisians with my newly learned phrases!
